How I found my passion for digital art during Lockdown - linesbyfran.com

In April 2020 I suddenly found myself with a lot of free time (like a lot of people). During Lockdown we could only leave the house once a day for exercise which meant we had find indoor activities to keep busy. I found digital art.
Back in April 2019 I purchased and iPad Pro and Apple Pencil with the intention of creating digital art. However, it took me a year before discovered what I could really do as a digital artist.
My digital artistic journey began when I started practicing lettering styles. You can see some of my lettering art available as posters here. Whilst creating my lettering art I learned how to digitally paint backgrounds, use layers and different techniques to enhance my art.
All of my digital art is hand drawn which created new challenges and opportunities. The pen to paper feel and pressure sensitivity the Apple Pencil and IPad Pro allows for gives the images such a personal feeling that can not be achieved creating digital art in Adobe Illustrator or similar desktop programs. That’s what really makes my art setup and digital painting special.
I have a fascination for using lines to create art. If you look closer at my larger prints then you’ll be able to see all of the tiny lines that go into making these pieces of art. As I’ve progressed through my art journey I’ve begun to develop a style of revealing colours through lines and different ways to incorporate letting into my art work.
I’m looking forward to seeing how my digital art develops and how it may change once we’re out of Lockdown. Creating digital art has been a way for me to process my emotions through art during these unprecedented times. It’s given me a safe outlet to sit with my feeling, express them and move forward. A positive tool I hope to utilise for the rest of my life.
Lastly, thank you to everyone who has supported my artist journey so far your support has been amazing. If you’re reading this having seen my art for the first time you can look back through my Instagram or Facebook @linesbyfran to see more of it and feel free to send me a message if you have any questions.
Big love,
Fran.
